The findings suggest that it is absorbing only half as much carbon dioxide as during the 1990s.

It could mean that governments would have to increase targets for cutting carbon emissions more sharply than previously thought.

When I saw the headline, I thought they would say that they found that the ocean's ability to absorb CO2 was down a percentage in the single digits.. not half!  The giggling was the idea that governments would actually pay any attention to this and cut emissions more sharply.  Still, it was only one sample in the sea of Japan, so it could be an anomoly, just like the rising methane levels reported in 2007 could be an anomoly, or the shrinking artic sea ice could be an anomoly...  Who knows, it could still be all a hoax...  (more insane giggling).

I think I spent much of 2008 depressed & angry about what I was reading about global warming.  I think I'm in the acceptance stage of grief now.  It's much more enjoyable.
